Day 2-My Parents Nightmare

August 29
I arrived at Children's Hospital of MI today at about 2am. I had recieved a medicine called Prostoglandin to keep my heart working at Beaumont. My parents found out that I have a birth defect of the heart called a Coarctation of the Aorta which would require heart surgery for me to survive. My mommy and daddy arrived at 4 am because they had to take my sister Nadia home where my Aunty Juanita was waiting there for them so she could take care of her. I was put into the NICU where I had two nurses named Chris and Amanda. I was on a breathing tube and not doing so well. My mommy and daddy stayed with me all day. My brother was at my parents friends house Scott and Monica. I myself was not doing great, but everyone had faith that I would make it. I got an ECHO which showed some improvement due to the medication. I didn't move at all today because I was highly sedated. Day 2 of journey will begin.... COARCTATION OF THE AORTA Coarctation of the aorta is a birth defect in which the aorta, the major artery from the heart, is narrowed. The narrowing results in high blood pressure before the point of coarctation and low blood pressure beyond the point of coarctation. Most commonly, coarctation is located so that there is high blood pressure in the upper body and arms and low blood pressure in the lower body and legs. Symptoms can include localized hypertension, cold feet or legs, decreased exercise performance, and heart failure.
